ROBBINSDALE, Minn. - Things are settling down in a Robbinsdale neighborhood after a hostage situation that unfolded over a period of nearly eight hours overnight Tuesday.

It began at 10 p.m. Monday when Robbinsdale police were called to the 3900 Block of Crystal Lake Boulevard. A woman inside a home told dispatchers she had been threatened with a handgun and physically assaulted by her male roommate.

Officers unsuccessfully tried to contact the suspect, then called in the West Metro SWAT Team. They were assisted by Hennepin County Sheriff's deputies and officers from the Edina Police Department and other agencies.

Negotiations with the suspect continued throughout the night until the 55-year-old man finally surrendered around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday. He was arrested for second degree domestic assault and is awaiting charges from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
