GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - As a clipper system pushes across the Upper Midwest Monday we get big changes in our weather. The mild temperatures of the morning look to hold on into midday but will drop sharply this afternoon.
Morning winds have a southerly component, which continued to flow warm air into the region overnight. But already winds across western Minnesota have switched to the northwest. This is the key to today's weather. Once we get the shift our air is coming from the Arctic and it's chilly! Temperatures drop to near 0 degrees tonight and we stay cool through Wednesday.
It's also the winds to blame for a Winter Weather Advisory across portions of western Minnesota. Blowing snow is expected with light snow accumulations to reduce visibility. Winds are expected to gusts to near 40 mph at times!
A Wind Advisory is also in effect for portions of the state. Ultimately, snow accumulations today will be light, but winds could cause some travel headaches, especially west of the Metro.
