ELK RIVER, Minn. - Mechanical problems snarled the morning commute for hundreds of passengers who ride the Northstar line Tuesday.
Metro Transit spokesman John Siqveland tells KARE 11 that the Northstar line Has 5 trips from Big Lake to Minneapolis each morning with stops in communities along the way.
Siqveland says Tuesday morning there was a mechanical problem on the second train at the Elk River station, which delayed it approximately one hour. That, in turn, backed up the morning's third train by half an hour.'
Metro Transit made the decision to couple the two trains together, and they were expected to arrive in Minneapolis around 8 a.m.
Delays for all morning runs except for the first train are described as significant, amounting to a half-hour or more.
