MOORHEAD, Minn. - A Midwestern family is dealing with twice the grief after a son was killed in a snowy pileup while on his way to attend his father's funeral.
Monday's crash near Barnesville killed 49-year-old Sean Ray of Minnetonka and his partner, 49-year-old Judith Reid. The wreck also critically injured Ray's 16-year-old son Evan, a student at Minnetonka High School.
Family members attending a memorial service for noted Moorhead artist Timothy Ray were given the tragic news when State Patrol troopers informed them that Sean Ray had died on the way to the funeral in Fargo, N.D.
Officials say Reid, the driver of the vehicle, tried to drive between a snowplow and a semi, made contact with the trucks and was struck by a pickup truck during blizzard-like conditions on Interstate 94 near Barnsville.
The Forum says 72-year-old Timothy Ray died Feb. 10 after battling colon cancer.
