PLYMOUTH, Minn. - MnDOT says a single-car crash on Interstate 494 eastbound near the junction with County Road 10 has triggered a backup that snaked back for miles.
The scene finally cleared around 8:20 a.m. but not before morning rush hour was disrupted for nearly an hour.
The vehicle left the roadway about 7:30 a.m. and careened into a stand of trees approximately 50 yards off the freeway. Emergency responders had to hike back through the snow to give the driver treatment.
Plymouth Police Captain Jeff Swiatkiewicz says it appears the male driver was having some sort of medical condition when his vehicle went off the road. Officers performed CPR before the man was transported to a local hospital. So far there is no word on his condition.
Emergency vehicles completely blocked the righthand lane, and cars were forced to slowly crawl by the scene in the left lane. KARE 11 traffic reporter Pete Busch says morning rush hour traffic backed up all the way past the junction of I-494 and I-94 in Maple Grove.
