BLAINE, Minn. - A Blaine Police officer got a two-for-one Thursday night after a suspected drunk driver struck his or her squad car as the officer worked a traffic stop.
It happened around 9 p.m. as the officer was conducting a traffic stop on northbound Highway 65 near the 125th Avenue Bridge. That officer was standing outside the door of the stopped vehicle just in front of the patrol car when it was struck by a pickup truck.
The suspect's vehicle continued past the officer, left the roadway and came to a stop near the shoulder of Highway 65. Police say the squad was struck despite having its emergency lights activated.
No injuries were reported to the officer, the driver of the stopped vehicle or the suspected drunk driver of the pickup. State Troopers took the man into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired.
