MAPLEWOOD, Minn. - Perhaps, the only thing that could add more tragedy to the murder of 16-year-old Anna Hurd is that on Friday afternoon a 17-year-old boy was arrested as the suspect for stabbing her multiple times and taking her life.

"I just care a lot about my daughter you know, it's not supposed to be like this," Patrick Hurd, Anna's father said after learning of the arrest.

Hurd's father, Patrick, says he saw his daughter for the last time 8 days ago, the fact that he now waits for answers, on a death investigation, tests him in ways that are impossible to say.

"The fact of the matter is she is dead. We got the guy that killed her, great, my daughter is gone still," Patrick said.

Police have said from the beginning that the public is not in danger, acting Maplewood Police Chief Dave Kvam stuck with that Friday saying Anna was killed by someone she knew.

But Kvam would go no further, give no clues as to who this teenage boy is or rather, was, to Anna Hurd.

"I can't address anything about their relationship or how they know one another or how tight they were in a circle or anything like that," Kvam said.

The U.S. Department of Justice re-enforces this fact, two thirds of female victims knows their attacker in crimes like this.

If Patrick Hurd knows who the suspect is, he wasn't saying.

But he did offer empathy during his own despair for the hurt that came today for parents of a teen on the other side of this nightmare.

"My heart goes out to whoever the parents are of the juvenile that is in custody. I can imagine what they are feeling like and they have to go thru this knowing your kid took a life," Hurd said.
The teen in custody is at the Ramsey County Juvenile Detention center, he was arrested at a residence without a struggle in Maplewood.
He could be charged in Ramsey County on Monday or Tuesday.
