MINNEAPOLIS - A 13-year-old student from Little Canada is headed to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
Jacob Lahti, a student at Parkview Center School in Roseville, successfully spelled the words "mobiliary" and "Rembrandt" to win first place in the Regional Spelling Bee held Saturday at Augsburg College.
Ten-year-old Nidhi Jois, of Forest Hills Elementary School, won second place. She was eliminated in the twelfth round for misspelling "jicama." Thirteen-year-old Elise Stahl, who is homeschooled, won third place.
Fifty students from fifty schools competed in the event.
Lahti will head to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., which is held May 26-June 1.
