ANOKA, Minn. - Investigators have made an arrest in the case of a woman found dead in a car that had been towed to a north metro impound lot. Police say the woman had been working as a prostitute.
The body of 18-year-old Brittany Clardy of St. Paul was discovered February 21, 2013 inside a vehicle that had been towed from a Brooklyn Park apartment complex to an impound lot in Columbia Heights. She was found eight days after the vehicle had been towed.
An autopsy revealed that Clardy had been murdered, but police had released no further details until Thursday.
The suspect is described as a 23-year-old Woodbury man. He was arrested Wednesday after detectives executed two search warrants at sites in Woodbury and Brooklyn Park. Evidence gathered gave law enforcement probable cause to make the arrest.
The suspect, who has not yet been charged, was wanted on a number of warrants issued in the state of Georgia.
Investigators say Clardy had been posting ads to backpage.com and that's how she became involved with suspect.
