GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - A quiet and mild day Friday will be changing as clouds move in ahead of the weekend storm system.
This storm will be different than the last with a lot more warm air streaming into the midwest. Expect the first bands of moisture to move into Minnesota later this evening and overnight falling in the form of sleet and rain showers in the metro, but as freezing rain, sleet and some wet snow in western Minnesota where the potential for ice accumulation exists tonight, along with snow on top of that over the next 48 hours.
In the metro we'll see mainly on-and-off rain showers during the day Saturday. As cold air gradually seeps in that rain will change to snow Saturday night into Sunday, giving the metro some light accumulations of potentially a couple to a few inches.
Several inches of snow will fall in west central and northeast Minnesota where a Winter Storm Watch and Winter Weather Advisory is posted. This does NOT include the Twin Cities metro area. We have the potential for over a half inch of rainfall on Saturday however!
