ST. PAUL, Minn. - Saturday's rainfall of up to an inch in some places caused road closures along Highway 169 and also kept crews busy on rooftops.
"We knew this would be a busy day," said Joe Palumbo with the Ice Dam Guys. "This is classic March ice dam season."
Palumbo says the early March snowstorm followed by steady rains has his company taking call after call. Eacgh of his 15 crews went home to home Saturday breaking up ice dams that have caused water to leak inside.
"All this rainwater is getting caught behind the existing dams right now and pouring into the house," he says. "People think Mother Nature will take care of it, but it's not Spring yet."
Rain and ice collided between St. Peter and Mankato, too. Frozen culverts and close to an inch of rain caused flooding on stretches of Highway 169. Mudslides formed in other portions of the roadway causing MNDoT to reroute traffic as they spent hours cleaning up the mess.
