COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, Minn. - Police in Columbia Heights are trying to locate a motorist who struck a pedestrian early Friday morning and then fled the scene.
Squads were called to Central Avenue Northeast at the intersection with 53rd Avenue Northeast around 1:45 a.m. on a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle while crossing an intersection.
Witnesses at the scene told officers that southbound traffic on Central Avenue had a green light when the man tried to cross the intersection against a "Do Not Walk" signal. They say he was struck by a white or silver passenger car who didn't stop and drove away on southbound Central. No other descriptions of the vehicle or driver were available.
The victim, a 35-year-old male from Brooklyn Center, was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center and evaluated for serious, but likely non-life threatening injuries.
Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect or the suspect vehicle is asked to call the Anoka County Sheriff's Office or Columbia Heights Police at (763) 427-1212.
