MAPLEWOOD, Minn. - Around fifty volunteers showed up at Keller Lake Sunday morning to continue the search for the body of 30-year-old Kira Trevino, the St. Paul woman who is missing and presumed dead.
St. Paul Police confirmed that they received a credible tip that led them to search the lake on Saturday. Authorities say they found an item of interest, but declined to elaborate what the item was or whether or not it is connected to the Trevino case. The item is being processed by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
"We appreciate everyone that comes out to help," said Keri Anne Steger, sister of Kira Trevino. "People are on their hands and knees and sacrifcing their time. We are grateful."
The tipster who contacted police posted on a private Facebook page that a client of hers saw two men near Keller Lake between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on the night Kira disappeared. The Facebook post also said that her client saw the two men carrying and struggling with something that looked like a rug.
Kira's husband, Jeffery Trevino, is currently in the Ramsey County Jail facing second degree murder charges for the death of his wife. Police say they found copious amount of blood in the Trevino's home and extensive evidence of a clean-up. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension later confirmed that the blood in the home was that of Kira Trevino. Her body has not yet been located.
