One killed in light rail/car collision in south Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS - The Minneapolis Fire Department confirms that one person is dead after a collision in south Minneapolis.

A light rail train crashed into a car near 26th and Hiawatha around 6:30 p.m. Friday evening.

Metro Transit tells KARE 11 the car apparently tried to drive under the crossing arm.

The 55-year-old man driving the car was killed. No one else was hurt. No one else was hurt.

Metro Transit expects to have the line cleared and trains running again by Friday night.
