One dead after Cedar Riverside standoff

MINNEAPOLIS -- A standoff in Minneapolis left one dead and two injured overnight.

Police were called to 1515 4th Street South around 10:30 p.m. Friday evening after reports of shots fired. A male victim was found having sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers soon learned the suspect had taken a female victim hostage and had fled to another apartment inside the building. Police were able to successfully negotiate the release of the female victim who was let go around 1 a.m. early Saturday morning.

The female did not sustain any gunshot wounds, but was wounded. It has not been released how she was injured.

A robot was sent into the apartment around 3:15 a.m. where the robot found an unresponsive male suspect. Police entered the apartment around 4 a.m. where they found a deceased male.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is expected to release the male's name and cause of death at a later point in time.
