ZIMMERMAN, Minn. - Autopsies indicate that a Zimmerman mother drowned both of her children before committing suicide on Easter Sunday.
A press release issued Tuesday says the Ramsey County Medical Examiner ruled that 35-year-old Stephanie Shields drowned her 7-year-old son Nolen and her 6-year-old daughter Josephine before taking her own life.
The release, issued by Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott, did not specify just how Stephanie Shields committed suicide.
Sheriff's deputies were called to 13309 5th Avenue South after a relative called 911 just after 10 a.m. Sunday and found three unresponsive bodies in the home. Deputies arrived and confirmed that all three of the individuals were deceased.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Crime Lab processed the scene and investigators from the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office and the BCA began interviewing all relevant parties. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office performed autopsies on the victims on Monday, April 1.
