BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. - A fatal crash in Brooklyn Center early Monday marked the latest incident in a deadly stretch on metro roads.

Police were called to the 6100 block of Shingle Creek Drive near the intersection with Summit Drive and found an SUV had crashed into a tree. The adult female driver was dead from her injuries, while a female passenger was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Pavement conditions were wet from overnight rain.

KARE 11 photojournalist Nate Anderson left this post on his Facebook page.

Just left the scene of another fatal crash, this one in Brooklyn Center. It's the third fatal accident in the past 12 hours, all within 10 miles of each other... Five people killed. Lets hope it stops here. - in Brooklyn Center.

Anderson was referencing two fatal crashes that occured Sunday, one on Interstate 94 westbound near the 49th Street exit. Three people were killed when a van tangled with two other vehicles and overturned.

The second involved a motorcycle that was reportedly being followed by a State Trooper. The State Patrol website says 23-year-old Tyron Somaiah of Crystal was killed when he ran a red light on his Yamaha and was struck by a car. In the minutes before the crash and pursuit the State Patrol says Somaiah was traveling at speeds of up to 130 miles per hour.

Somaiah was dead on the scene.
