GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota junior hockey defenseman Derek Forbort is giving up his final year of college eligibility to turn pro.

The school says Forbort has signed a three-year entry level contract with the NHL's Los Angeles Kings. The Duluth, Minn., native was a first-round draft pick of the Kings in 2010, selected 15th overall.

Forbort is the third UND player to turn pro this spring. Senior Danny Kristo signed with Montreal and senior Andrew MacWilliam signed with Toronto.
