HASTINGS, Minn. - A Hastings father is expected to face child endangerment charges on Tuesday after his 2-year-old son was found barefoot in the middle of an intersection carrying two bottles of alcohol.

"He was just standing right in the middle of the intersection of the street," said Hilton Fiedler of Prescott, who was out for a Sunday drive with his wife when the couple drove up on the boy.

Police say the boy had a bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade in each hand. One bottle was open; the other was still capped, according to Hastings police.

Officers began canvassing the neighborhood for the boy's parents. When no one claimed the 2-year-old, he was taken to the police department.

Police chief Paul Schnell said the boy's father finally called police two-and-a-half hours later to report him missing.

"When officers responded to the house they found the father to be under the influence alcohol. He was quite uncooperative with officers and ultimately that lead to his arrest for child endangerment," said Schnell.

The father's home is located less than a block from the intersection where the boy was found.

Schnell said the boy's mother -- who doesn't live with the father -- dropped the boy off for a visit earlier in the day on Sunday. The boy is now back in her care. Schnell says there is no evidence to suggest the boy consumed alcohol. His behavior appeared normal for a two-year-old, police said.
