ANOKA COUNTY, Minn. - Two drivers are hospitalized after a serious crash in Anoka County Thursday that appears to be weather related.
Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of 171st Avenue Northeast and Crosstown Boulevard Northeast shortly before 11 a.m. and found two vehicles that had collided at a high rate of speed.
Those on scene tell KARE 11 that it appears a car driven by a male may have gotten its wheels stuck in heavy slush and turned sideways across the road. The car was then struck by an SUV driven by a female driver.
The impact was so powerful that the male was ejected from his vehicle and the engine and entire front end was ripped from his car.
Reports say first responders requested a helicopter to evacuate the victims but chopper crews were unable to fly due to weather conditions.
Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital.
