ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The day started out pretty well for students at St. Cloud State University. The several inches of snow cancelled classes on Thursday.

"That was awesome," said junior Lucas Luc.

It happened on the same day the men's hockey team made its first ever appearance in the Frozen Four.

"It's really exciting," said Morgan Wholers, a freshman from Elk River. "I'm surprised we made it this far, it's crazy."

Hundreds stood in line inside the Atwood Memorial Center waiting to get into the ballroom to watch the game on a big screen. School officials say the room was at capacity.

"Everyone's been talking about it the last couple days, 'Where are you going to watch the game?'" said freshman Joshua Kerrick.

Kerrick and his buddies Nick Doroff and Scott Athey joined 1200 other students who ate pizza and won prizes while watching their beloved Huskies.

"I know for sure picked St. Cloud State to win it all," said Kerrick.

And so it went. Optimism was high. Then the game started. The Huskies were down by three almost before the refs dropped the puck.

While a lot of people didn't expect St. Cloud State to make it as far as they did, most didn't expect them to play like this.

"I feel they're playing pretty even, they're just not getting a lot of bounces," said Kerrick.

Does a snow day make up for the loss?

"I'd rather have them win," he said.
