MINNEAPOLIS - The Minneapolis SWAT team, officers and negotiators are on the scene of a standoff at a north Minneapolis home.

The situation started around 4:40 a.m. Sunday morning in the 3500 block of Newton Avenue North. A man reportedly took two adults and a child hostage in the home.

Sgt. Stephen McCarty with the Minneapolis Police Department says the three hostages have since been released, but the suspect is still inside the home and believed to be armed. The hostages were not injured during the ordeal.

McCarty would not describe the relationship between the suspect and the hostages, but says more information will be released when the situation is resolved.

Authorities are staged outside the home and continue to try and make contact with the suspect.
