CHICAGO - Public Works crews are trying to shore up a street in southeast Chicago after a sinkhole swallowed three cars early Thursday morning.

It happened in the South Deering neighborhood on the southeast side of the city.

One person was pulled from the hole at 9600 South Houston Avenue and rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

First responders from the fire department responded to the scene around 5:30 a.m. when two cars plunged through the collapsing street. A third vehicle tumbled into the sinkhole as pavement that was holding it up gave way. That scene was captured on videotape.
