BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - For the next few years, expect some slowdowns and detours near the Mall of America.
"It's a two-year project on the Mall's north side," said Julie Long, a civil engineer with the City of Bloomington. "It will take a little extra time getting around."
Road closures and construction have already started. The plan is to reconfigure routes in and out of the Mall of America's north side and even create a grade separation for Lindau Lane.
"We are excited about the construction," says Dan Jasper with the Mall of America. "We'll be adding a hotel, an office tower, and some additional retail space.
In the end, the Mall's 4.2 million square feet will double. Until then, let the cones, barrels and signs guide you in and out of the area.
"You'll want to have your wits about you," said Long. "Eventually, this will help guide motorists around much better."
The Mall's expansion will open in 2015.
