ST. PAUL, Minn. - The former drummer for Prince is among those drumming up support to a measure that would raise the price of tobacco in Minnesota.
Bobby Z was at the state capitol Thursday for a rally calling for the increase. The drummer suffered a massive heart attack in 2011.
"I wouldn't call myself a smoker but I think teens always dabble in these things and it's easy to get hooked so it's better to learn about it and and not to start," said Bobby Z.
The idea behind the tax is making cigarettes and tobacco products less accessible to teens.
A proposal to raise the tobacco tax from 94 cents to $1.60 has passed committees in both the house and senate. It will move on to the full house and senate next.
