ST. PAUL, Minn. - An already-disturbing case has become even more so with criminal charges being filed against the alleged father of a stillborn baby shipped to a commercial laundry in Red Wing.
Prosecutors say Jose Armando Recinos-Ramirez had sex a number of times with a 14-year-old girl who then became pregnant. They say that teen then delivered the stillborn baby that somehow was removed from the morgue at Regions Hospital in St. Paul and dropped off at Crothall Laundry Services on April 16.
Police were called shortly after the 14-year-old delivered the stillborn child at Regions. An investigator visited the teen at her home and she reluctantly revealed that the father of her child was named Jose, and that his last name was Resinoz. She said he had told her he was 17-years-old when they met at the Mall of America the summer before.
She told police that the man was in the country illegally and had fled to El Salvador. The girl said she did not want to provide information on his address or his whereabouts.
Soon after a relative of the teen contacted police and told them the father of the stillborn child wanted to talk to investigators. Jose Armando Recinos-Ramirez, age 32, came to the St. Paul Police Department and sat down with an interpreter to speak with investigators.
He told them the girl told him she was 18-years-old, but he soon began to suspect otherwise. Recinos-Ramirez claimed the two had had sex only one or two times, and that he wasn't sure the baby was his because the teen was out "messing around." He was at the hospital when the baby was born April 3.
That baby boy was somehow shipped from Regions Hospital to the laundry facility in Red Wing. Police continue their investigation into how that happened.
Recinos-Ramirez is charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct for having sex with someone who is 14. If found guilty he could be sentenced to a possible 15 years in prison.
