FARGO, N.D. - The National Weather Service is predicting the Red River to rise in the Fargo-Moorhead area to rise to about 37 feet by the middle of next week, with the crest to come later in the week.
Fargo officials on Wednesday scaled back flood protection efforts after the weather service lowered the crest prediction, but they cautioned that residents shouldn't breathe any sighs of relief until the crest comes and goes.
NWS Meteorologist Greg Gust says the expected crest range is between 38 and 40 feet, down slightly from a maximum crest prediction made last week of 42 feet. A rapid warm-up is expected toward the end of this week and heavy rains could come early next week.
