ST. PAUL, Minn. - There is no doubt the Minnesota Wild is worried about the explosive offensive potential that comes with a playoff series against the Chicago Blackhawks.
General Manager Chuck Fletcher announced Monday that the club is moving to shore up its blueline by recalling defenseman Marco Scandella from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL).
To make room for Scandella the Wild is reassigning left wing Stephane Veilleux to Houston.
The 23-year-old Scandella skated in six games with Minnesota this season, scoring one goal with four penalty minutes (PIM). He tallied 17 points (2 goals and 15 assists) with 23 penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating in 45 games with Houston this season.
Scandella has also scored one goal in two playoff games for the Aeros this season.
There is no word yet on whether the Wild plan to have Scandella skate a regular shift against the Blackhawks, and if so, which member of the defensive corp will be taking in the series from the press box.
