MINNEAPOLIS - The Twin Cities' best-loved music venue is feeling renewed affection on a national level these days thanks to a shout out in this month's issue of Rolling Stone.
First Avenue was named America's third-best large music club/theater in a poll of 26 music industry insiders ranging from performers Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney, Corin Tucker Band) and Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) to agent Tom Windish (numerous indie-rock acts) and promoter Andy Cirzan (promoter, Jam Productions in Chicago).
Reporter Steve Knopper wrote the following when giving First Avenue the high-profile shout out.
"Fans love the no-frills vibe and killer acoustics at this former Greyhound depot, where Prince was an Eighties regular; it
was the setting for all the famous concert scenes in Purple Rain."
Coming in at numbers one and two in the poll were 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. and The Fillmore in San Francisco respectively.
