GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Ice is out for most lakes in the southern third of the state with 23 ice outs declared this past weekend and another 10 on Monday.
Lake Minnetonka is close, but still has about a foot of ice in select locations.
Even though Lake Mille Lacs lost 14 inches of ice this weekend, the lake still has about 2 feet of ice at its thickest points.
The thickest ice in the state, as reported by local bait shops, is up to 40 inches on the inland lakes near Two Harbors, just north of Duluth.
Typically, by this time, only the most northern Minnesota lakes still have ice.
