GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - As summer eventually rolls around, it's important to remember to protect your skin.

More than one million Americans are diagnosed with non-melanoma skin cancer each year.

Add to that 60,000 cases a year of melanoma, the deadliest skin cancer, and the need for skin-cancer screening becomes obvious.

On Monday, May 6 you can get that screening for free, in honor of "Melanoma Monday." You can visit the American Academy of Dermatology's website to find a screening clinic near you.

Dr. Whitney Tope is with the Edina's Academic Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery and Laser Center and joined KARE 11 Sunrise with more on how you can take part.
