GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - A lot more people than you may realize work to protect the citizens of Hennepin County.
Last year 106 special sheriffs' deputies gave a total of 18,000 free hours of service to help close a critical gap in resources.
And while they donate their time, it takes money to get them set-up to hit the streets.
Sheriff Rich Stanek joined KARE 11 Sunrise to talk about a fundraiser going on this weekend to keep the volunteering alive.
Shoot 4 the Stars, now in its second year, raises much-needed funds to provide uniforms, technical equipment, and other training opportunities for the more than 100 volunteer Special Deputies who serve the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office (HCSO).
Shoot 4 the Stars is a family-oriented day of shotgun shooting sports and informal competition, held at the internationally renowned Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club in Prior Lake, Minnesota on May 4.
Horse & Hunt has hosted national and international sporting clays championships, and is widely considered one of the top three sporting clays facilities in the nation.
