STILLWATER, Minn. - The man accused of shooting and killing a 9-year-old Oakdale boy during a random shooting spree in February has been found incompetent to stand trial for now.
Under the order, signed Friday by a Washington County judge, 34-year-old Nhan Tran will undergo treatment at a state security hospital in St. Peter. He could still face trial for the death of Devin Aryal.
Tran is accused of killing Aryal and wounding several others, including the boy's mother, when he fired a gun at passing motorists in February.
On Friday, Devin's mother told KARE 11 News she was feeling a "little bit of everything. I've got every emotion: angry, sad, grief."
Missy Aryal also said her "heart has just been shattered" by the loss of her son, and "this will be a longer process, but justice will be served."
Karen Knoblach shares those sentiments. Knoblach was hit by a couple bullets and ended up losing a finger. But today she's grateful her three granddaughters, who were also in the car, survived.
"A lot of angels in the car that night," she said, continuing, "I'm looking for justice for Devin, not as much for myself. I lost a finger, but Devin lost his life."
