PARK RAPIDS, Minn. - A bicyclist is reported in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver who may have been having a medical condition.
Hubbard County deputies were dispatched to a scene on County Road 7 just after 5:30 on reports that a bicyclist had been hit by a vehicle on County Road 7 near Dorset, not far from Park Rapids. The caller also reported that the driver of the vehicle had fled the scene in their vehicle.
As officers and medical personnel were responding, the suspect vehicle was located on County Road 11. The driver refused to pull over for officers and struck another vehicle and a stop sign on County 17 before coming to a stop.
Officers were forced to break out a window on the vehicle to gain access to the driver, who was identified as 79 year old James Burt of Park Rapids. Burt had head injuries and appeared to be suffering from a medical condition.
The injured bicyclist, 63 year old Linda Larson of Park Rapids, was airlifted to Memorial Hospital and is listed as being in critical condition.
James Burt was transported to a Fargo hospital and is also listed in critical condition.
