GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - You never quite know what you will get for weather on a mid-May weekend, and this year the fishing opener will bring cool temps and gusting winds. Sandwiched between warm air masses, this weekend will yield little as far as warmth.
After a second blast of chilly air moves through Friday night, temperatures will drop with temps in the low 40s to start Saturday morning in the south, 30s in the north.
Highs will reach only into the low to mid 50s in southern Minnesota Saturday and just into the 40s in northern Minnesota. We'll see sunshine statewide both Saturday & Sunday but the winds will howl Saturday from the northwest at 15-30 sustained, with gusts as high as 40 mph as that chilly air settles in.
Winds will calm Saturday night and temps will drop into the 20s in the north and 30s in the south with clear skies.
Mom will get a little bit better day Sunday with highs near 60 by afternoon in the south, 50s north with lighter winds.
Amazingly, temps could be near 90 in parts of southern Minnesota by Tuesday.
