PARK RAPIDS, Minn. - Gov. Mark Dayton celebrated the Fishing Opener by catching and releasing a nice sized walleye early Saturday morning.
He caught the fish at 12:25 a.m. in Park Rapids during the 2013 Minnesota Governor's Fishing Opener.
This is one of the iciest starts ever to the walleye season. Ice still covers many lakes across the northern third of Minnesota, including some of the state's premiere walleye lakes.
The DNR warns that the ice is not safe, and that anglers should respect the cold water and wear a life vest.
