HOPKINS, Minn. - A power outage that hit Wednesday morning has closed Hopkins High School for the remainder of the day.
The district website says the high school lost power in the west wing of the building, the area where food service is housed. Xcel Energy crews were called in to assess the problem and determined it would take the remainder of the day to restore electricity.
Without power or the capability to prepare food the decision was made to dismiss students at 10 a.m. Additional buses were brought in to transport students who ordinarily would not have transportation.
At this time it is expected school will go on as normal Thursday, but official announcements will be posted on the Hopkins Public School District website.
