ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud police are investigating the death of a man found inside a burning garage Tuesday night.
The man's identity has not been released; his body has been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for identification and a determination of cause of death.
The dead man didn't live at the house, which was being rented, said Lt. Jeff Oxton. He isn't connected to the owners of the house either.
What he was doing inside the garage, and why he was there at the time of the fire is being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Unit, the state fire marshal's office and St. Cloud fire marshal's office.
Firefighters were called at 7:09 p.m. to the detached garage at 121-36th Ave. N. When crews began clearing the fire they discovered the victim's body.
The garage was intact Wednesday morning with its door closed and char marks on the exterior siding. Some debris was in the driveway, but there was no crime scene tape or barriers to the accessing scene of the fire.
Fire officials estimated the damage to the garage, its contents and the vehicle inside at $15,000.
