RED WING, Minn. - A jogger is dead after apparently falling to his death off of Barn Bluff in Red Wing Wednesday night.
First responders were called to the bluff's north side shortly before 9 p.m. on reports of someone needing medical assistance. Citizens were already performing CPR on the man by the time the first officers and paramedics arrived, Police Chief Roger Pohlman told KARE 11.
The victim was pronounced dead and transported to Mayo Health System in Red Wing. Police have not released his identity yet as family is notified.
Witnesses told police they had seen the man jogging near the top of the bluff and he came up and asked directions to get down. Some 20 minutes later they found him unresponsive and lying on a path at the bottom of the 200-foot rock wall.
Chief Pohlman says the man was from out of town and didn't know the landscape. He suspects the jogger took the north path, which runs quite close to the edge of the bluff, and apparently slipped off and fell to his death.
