MINNEAPOLIS -- It might seem like Mother Nature has it out for weekend event planners. At least in Minnesota. At least this spring.

On Saturday, races, garage sales and farmers markets all tried to survive yet another rainy weekend morning.

"With this weekend, we're probably two to three weeks behind," said Beka Brown, a worker at the Minneapolis Farmers Market.

Brown held out hope people would see beyond the downpour and chilly temperatures.

"We're all confident we're going to catch up here and sell it all," she said.

Elana Dahlberg with Secondhand Hounds held onto a similar optimism.

"We're just trying to sort through things and hoping tomorrow is no rain, and we'll be able to sell something," she said.

On Friday, storms caused Secondhand Hounds to close its garage sale early. But Dahlberg hoped the event -- a fundraiser for the animal non-profit organization -- would recover enough on Saturday afternoon and Sunday to raise money for their cause.

"[It's] all for the dogs. It all goes to save more dogs and the operational costs of Secondhand Hounds," she said.

But some do Mother Nature will play a critical -- if not, consistent -- role in their spring-time events.

"This is the biggest fundraiser that we do for the year. It's always weather-dependent. This is our fourth year of doing it, too. This is the third year it's rained," said Melissa Jones with TPT, which was hosting its Family Fun Day at Como Town and Como Park Zoo.

But Jones noted -- it's not unusual for hearty Minnesotans to scope out the silver lining.

"You know hard core Minnesotans who came out at ten o'clock this morning didn't have a wait at all. They were on those rides first thing," she said.

Mandy Boland and her four-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Carly, agreed.

"We thought it would be fewer people so it was more of an attraction," Boland said.
