HASTINGS, Minn. - Police in Hastings are crediting numerous tips from citizens for the arrest of a suspect in a violent gas station robbery that took place early Wednesday morning.
Authorities say tips began streaming in after media outlets shared surveillance video and audio of the robbery, which happened shortly after 5 a.m. at the M & H gas station and convenience store at Highway 61 and 15th Street.
The surveillance tape captured the suspect as he pulled a knife and threatened clerks, screaming at them in a agitated state before grabbing cash and fleeing the area on a bicycle.
Tips led them to a home on the 400 block of East 3rd Street in Hastings where they arrested the 27-year-old suspect, and a 31-year-old woman who faces charges of aiding an offender and receiving stolen property. Investigators recovered cash, clothing, and the bicycle suspected of being used in the robbery.
"The assistance we received from the media in putting this information out was critically helpful in garnering community assistance to quickly identify and ultimately arrest this robbery suspect," said Hastings Police Chief Paul Schnell. "This arrest resulted from the combination of
good information, an engaged community, and tenacious investigators."
Charges could be filed Thursday in Dakota County court.
