ROSEVILLE - A sexual assault suspect turned himself into police Friday night after a Washington County Sheriff's chaplain recognized the suspect on an online story at kare11.com.
The chaplain says he was watching the story on his KARE 11 smartphone app. The chaplain says the suspect shown in surveillance photos was one of his church parishioners.
Roseville Police say the chaplain called the parishioner to the church and showed him the story on kare11.com. The chaplain and suspect then went to the authorities. Police say the suspect confessed to the Roseville incident as well as others.
On Saturday, May 18, police were called to the Crossroads of Roseville Mall on a report of a sexual assault. Police say the victim, a 51-year old woman, told them she had exited the mall and was loading items into the trunk of her car when someone approached her from behind, grabbed her buttocks and attempted to push her into the trunk.
The victim told officers that the suspect pushed his groin up against her. The woman says the suspect only stopped when she began to kick him.
Police say after the suspect confessed on Friday, May 24, he was booked and was being held in the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center pending charges on Tuesday.
