GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - As many of us get ready to hit the water this summer, the CDC is warning there are an increasing number of infections caused by bacteria in public pools.

So, health experts are now recommending that you test those pools yourself.

Free test kits are now being offered including strips for you to dip in the pool before you dip in yourself.

The free strip won't tell you if there are bacteria in the pool but it will tell you if the chlorine is high enough to kill the bacteria.

Apparently, you're looking for a reading of 1 or higher.

You can visit healthypools.org to request a free test kit.
