ANOKA, Minn. - Anoka County Sheriff's deputies are seeking a suspect after a teenager was attacked and robbed in a popular park Tuesday night.
Squads were dispatched to Bunker Hills Park in Andover just before 5:15 p.m. on reports of an assault and robbery. The alleged victim was a 17-year-old female who had been walking on a path in the north end of the park.
The teen told deputies that she had been in the park with friends since 2 p.m. that afternoon and had just separated to go home in a different direction from the group. She says she was walking near an overlook on County C Parkway, checking her cell phone for text messages when she heard somebody running up behind her.
Suddenly, she says, a man forcibly grabbed her and dragged her into the nearby woods. The teen said the suspect told her not to scream or he would kill her. Once in the woods, the suspect assaulted and robbed the complainant, then ran off.
A spokesman for the Anoka County Sheriff's Department says there is no evidence of a sexual assault.
The victim was treated and released at the hospital for injuries sustained during the assault.
Investigators are seeking a white male in his early 30's, 6 feet tall with slender build, dark hair, and a scruffy unshaven look. The victim says he was wearing light colored cargo pants and a t-shirt.
Anyone who knows the identity of the subject or has information about the crime is asked to call the Anoka County Sheriff's Office at (763) 427-1212.
