SARTELL, Minn. -- Sartell Mayor Joe Perske says he's leaning toward running as a DFLer for the congressional seat now held by Rep.
Michele Bachmann. Perske said Wednesday he's mulling a candidacy in Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, which includes St. Cloud, in response to a Times inquiry.
A Sartell Middle School teacher, Perske has been mayor of Sartell since January 2011.
During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Perske said he conferred with officials from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee about a possible run in the 6th District. He said he also has spoken with Minnesota DFL chair Ken Martin about the possibility.
Perske said he expects to decide whether to run before the start of the fall semester at Sartell Middle School. "I'm doing my homework to see if this is really what I want to do," Perske said Wednesday afternoon.
If he opts to run, Perske would join Judy Adams, a Circle Pines environmental activist, who said Tuesday that she's a DFL candidate in the district.
Republicans Tom Emmer and Rhonda Sivajarah also have announced candidacies.
