MADISON, Wis. - A snapping turtle found bludgeoned, possibly with a golf club, on a Delavan, Wis. golf course has died.

Jeannie Lord, director of the Pineview Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, said Wednesday the female turtle died overnight. She says the turtle's injuries were too extensive for it to survive.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports photographs showed gouges in its shell and a severe head injury.

Lord estimated the turtle was between 10 and 13 years old. The Department of Natural Resources was called at about 9:30 a.m. Monday to "Hole 4 North" at the Delbrook Golf Club.

The Global Conservation Group of Watertown offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has also offered a total of $5,000.
