ST. PAUL - The Ordway takes a big step into the future on Tuesday.
The performing arts center officially breaks ground on a new, 1,100 seat concert hall. The hall will replace the McKnight Theatre, which seats 306.
The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra will call the concert hall home.
The new concert hall, being funded by a $79 million campaign, will feature 114 seats that surround the stage and double as a choir loft. Opening day is set for Spring 2015.
Demolition of the McKnight Theatre is set for July. Much of the theater will live on, including the seats, which have been donated to a performing arts center in Fergus Falls.
KARE 11's Bryan Piatt has more about what the new concert hall will look like and re-lives some of the memories inside the McKnight Theatre.
