TOWN OF EMERALD, Wis. - A western Wisconsin man is dead after colliding with a deer while riding his motorcycle Tuesday night.

The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office says 59-year-old Robert Cripe was riding his Harley Davidson westbound on County Road G near East 250th Street just before 8 p.m. when a deer ran out from a ditch and into his path.

Cripe's motorcycle struck the deer and he was thrown from the vehicle. He was airlifted to Regions Hospital where he later died.

Investigators are trying to determine whether Cripe was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
