GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Studies show each dollar spent at local independent businesses generates, on average, at least three times more direct local economic benefit than dollars spent at an absentee owner chain.
So the Twin Cities kicks-off one of its largest-ever efforts to promote shopping local on Thursday, June 27.
It's all part of "Celebrate Your Independents" month organized by the Metro Independent Business Association.
Mary Hamel, executive director of the association, and John Hoeschen, from the St. Paul Corner Drug Store, joined KARE 11 Sunrise to talk about the local campaign.
