APPLE VALLEY, Minn. - A motorcyclist is dead and a driver is facing charges of driving drunk after a fatal crash in Apple Valley Thursday night.

Police say it happened just after eight o'clock near the intersection of 160th Street West and Harwell Avenue West. The 29-year-old motorcyclist was headed westbound in the right lane of 160th Street when the female driver of a Ford Taurus made a left hand turn in front of him.

The motorcycle rider died at the scene. Officers questioned the  driver of the car, determined that she had been drinking and arrested her on the scene.

The 44-year-old Apple Valley woman is being held in the Dakota County Jail on potential charges of criminal vehicular homicide, driving while impaired, driving after cancellation, and open bottle.

Official charges could come as early as Friday.
